Anna T. Kelly
was born in China and grew up in Taiwan. For as long as she can remember
she has been attracted to the visual arts. After receiving her bachelor
of science degree in textile engineering, she worked in fabric design
and began training in fine arts in the studios of Professor J.Y. Chen
and Professor Lee Teh. She learned Chinese painting under Professor H.N.
Au.
In
1975, she came to the United States. Whenever the opportunity arose, she
pursued her artistic interests. She studied art at Pasadena City College,
and, beginning in 1995, she took part in a comprehensive fine arts curriculum
at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, studying under artist
and art historian Richard Lees. She continues to participate in various
courses and workshops offered by Chinese and American masters including
Zhou Shuqiao, Jove Wang, John Budicin and Kathryn Stats.
Anna
is an Artist Member of the California Art Club and a member of the Oil
Painters of America and the Pasadena Society of Artists. In the last five
years, Anna's work has been juried into many events of local, statewide
and national importance.
From over 200 invited artists, 58
paintings were selected for display in the 2009 "Contemporary Masters,
Artistic Eden II" invitational exhibit at the Pasadena Museum of
History in Pasadena, California. Anna's painting "Float Tents, Rose
Bowl" received the prestigious Museum Purchase Award and
will join the museum's collection of works by California impressionists.
Anna's sensitivity to color and her unusual
and emotive subjects give her paintings a special character that makes
them especially attractive to collectors. She says, "I consider myself
a portraitist, not only of people, but of daily life. I try to paint what
I love, in order to share my affection with those who view my art."
